Music Myths: Robert Johnson Sold His Soul to the Devil
Robert Johnson's deal with the devil at midnight on a crossroad in Mississippi is one of the most wide-reaching urban legends in music. But he was a lot more than the folktale suggests. He's had a major influence on modern music and many artists credit his style as an inspiration for their own music.

The 80s Parental Advisory Label Was Absolutely Useless

The 80s were nuts. But one of the stupidest things that we all ignore in the modern day came out of that era: the Parental Advisory label on albums. This is the history of that label that involves Tipper Gore booming in front of the senate, Dee Snider balling out, and RIAA making a backdoor deal to create the most useless label in the music industry. follow me Discord: discord.gg/gpbTJJBRQG Twi...

Germany's History of Banning Hip Hop

Germany is somewhere in between, so today we're going to look at the history of German censorship of hip hop albums from the 1990s to the 2010s. The agency known as the BPjM indexes a piece of art and adds it to the JuSchG list of indexed media. This practice is slow...
The Death of the Type Beat Producer

The traditions of hip hop music production go all the way back to the 1970s, but the internet era changed that completely with the concept of 'type beats'. VSTs, DAWs, and cheap hardware gave lesser known producers a chance to make money and it ended up being a goldrush for many. Similar to other trends like Late Night TV or disco music, type beats have slowly left the cultural mainstream. 0:00...

    Aboutca decade ago there used to be this Transhumanist nutta called Mat, a teacher at Access To Music Brighton, he was very active on the REAPER forum (yet he never contributed in anyway to reaper but spoke like he owned it), he'd write long rants about interfacing DAWs with human brains, getting rid of all hardware (including midi controllers) and argue with absolutely everyone, absolute knutjob he was, unfortunately he convinced some of the students to join his (what was basically a) cult at the time. Anyone know what ever happened to him?

    You forgot something very important, with Cubase 7 and Nuendo 6 the Asio Guard technology was introduced, and with it 64 bit. Background The Cubase and Nuendo audio engine is designed to process and play back all audio signals in real time. Everything you hear has just been processed by the CPU. There is always a little ASIO related offset (the latency) but this latency can usually be reduced to an (almost) unnoticeable value by setting the buffer sizes accordingly. The buffer size basically is the time frame in which the audio processing for each ASIO block has to be accomplished. The smaller the buffer size, the more important a properly configured computer system and well working drivers are. Only then the application is able to execute the processing reliably thus making optimal use of the available CPU resources. If there is a delay, it can happen that there is not enough time left to process one audio block which leads to audio drop outs. There are various reasons for such a delay. It always depends on the operating system, the audio hardware in use, drivers and the general system setup. However, the result is always the same: even though theoretically enough CPU power is available, audio drop outs occur. ASIO Guard This is where ASIO Guard sets in. The aim is to become as independent as possible from the strict ASIO real time requirements. Whenever there is CPU time left despite the required real time processing, the upcoming buffer blocks are pre-calculated to have them available for the next ASIO block cycle. Under certain circumstances, this method can stabilize or even increase the resources available for audio processes. The effect on the overall performance not only depends on the hardware environment but also the specific use case. For instance, audio channels that are monitor enabled cannot be pre-calculated and have to be processed in the time-critical real time path leaving fewer resources for ASIO Guard. This increases the risk for audio drop outs again. With ASIO Guard enabled, Cubase/Nuendo will try to utilize the less time-critical path as much as possible. The assignment is an automatic and dynamic process. A monitor enabled channel will be removed from the ASIO Guard mode automatically. Once the monitoring is disabled again, the channel will return into the ASIO Guard path. Because of this dynamic reallocation, it is advisable to monitor the VST performance meter to be able to address potential overloads.

    this has the second best piano rofl only behind FL studio, imo, it feels rely nice to use. compared to FL, i like that you have both normal midi items (like reaper nad most daws) AND 'patterns' (like FL) allowing you to choose whatever option fits your needs more. i personally find it a little annoying in FL that EVERYTHING needs to be a pattern. also has one very cool usability feature - rolling mouse wheel over notes in reusable pattern/drum editor changes velocity of the note. it's such a nice and intuitive feature i was surprised when i launched FL studio for the first time and found out it's NOT there xDDD

    REAPER is the only DAW I've worked in - so I don't know how other's compare. But when I watch mixing videos - with people working in others DAWs - they seem clunkier than REAPER. Setting up Sends and Buses in REAPER is super simple by comparison. I love the Actions menu - the custom 'skins' available. The resource videos available are insane (Kenny Gioia: I'm looking at you). What if splice and other sampling companys just send their whole library to content ID and give it free clear pass so that no one can content ID the specific sample, only the unique combination of samples or their own made samples

  • @jacksolarmusicmastering
    @jacksolarmusicmastering 21 день тому

    the solution is to copyright songs as a whole (the combination of the beat with melody, vocal etc), not a melody on its own, so that the melody on its own cant be copyrighted since u got it from splice but the combination of elements with that melody should be able to be copyrighted (the specific beat, with specific melody, specific vocal combination). ps. if splice sampling give that much problems while they're billionair companies then they should get sued aswell or atleast fix this problem with for example my example.

    I was using SoundTools in 1990 end I had my personal using ProTools 4.0 in 1997. It's still my main DAW and still the one that feels like a "real" studio. Every move or path is possible in PT just like a real studio and I now work happily on my M1 Pro laptop for my daily mixing and mastering. A real dream come true. And the plugins today are as good as any hardware around, and the recall is there in seconds, AND I can mix on my terrace looking to the seashore... Midi is improving but I still use other DAW for production... Room for improvement. Still expensive though :-(

    1. The Roland CR-78 was the first programmable drum machine on the mass market. 2. The Linn 9000 came out years after the TR-808. 3. You also say that most drum machines before the 808 used samples. The first drum machine that used samples was the Linn LM-1 which came out a year AFTER the TR-808. In fact it is obvious that you did minimal deep research for this video. You don't know what you are talking about. I mention these things because the people commenting below seem to be taking you at your word and will now go on to talk BS in comment sections.

    • @afunnylookingsquash

      Didn’t say it was the first, just one of the first. Lin LM-1 was the first to use digital samples, but many before it used samples not recorded digitally. How do you think we recorded music decades before digital sample files were created? There were ofc many drum machines that used synthesis as well during that time. Might do some good to also do a bit of googling before commenting

    • @group-music
      @group-music 29 днів тому

      @@afunnylookingsquash The whole time you are talking about non programmable drum machines, you are showing the programmable CR-78. There were no drum machines with sampled drums before the Linn LM-1. There were reels of tape with drum patterns on old Chamberlain keyboards, but not in any drum machines. Before the LM-1, all drum machines used analogue circuitry to create the sounds and sequence them. How we recorded before digital sampling was by using magnetic tape. Again, no actual drum machines had taped "Samples". I have been using drum machines since before you were born and, unlike you, I DO know what I'm talking about.

    OMG! One of the few times I can actually comment something worthy to a video. I'm user /Pelusteriano, I modded /Guitar for about 2/3 years, around 2017. Code347 and ninjaface have always been a pain in the ass. Back then the active mod group was comprised of /ChuckEye, /iamchets, /seehocks (who removed his account), and myself. Code and nf barely posted and performed any mods actions. When Code posted, it was comments in porn subs, go figure. When we tried to make the sub better by actively engaging with the users, Code and nf didn't like it because we didn't ask them. The thing is... They were never around, it took months for them to answer anything. We weren't going to wait months for a reply. So, we decided to do something about it and make some changes without their consent... And they didn't like it. It hurt their little egos and their status quo as head mods. Things got heated and all but Code and nf removed us as mods and banned us from ever posting to the sub. Since Reddit uses a totem-like moderating style, older mods outrank younger ones. Therefore, a mod who is barely active but became a mod before you can remove and ban you without anyone's approval. Here's a few threads about our removal: - iamchets talking about his removal in /guitarcirclejerk: redd.it/7g3ng6 - iamchets talking about his removal in /guitar (most of it removed by Code and nf), you can find nf's downvoted sorry-ass replies trying to cover his tracks: redd.it/7g3oqg - A self-post where I tried to reach the community (the post was locked by Code and nf): redd.it/6fob3c - A self-post with one of the propositions I made, a thorough FAQ, which was busted by Code and nf: redd.it/4ogxh5 Their moderation has always been a fiasco. Any former mod (even UA-cam creator Ben Levin used to be a mod, he was removed a few months before I got the position) will tell you how awful it is and, if you mention it, they get defensive and end up banning you. The constant come-and-go of mods is one of the reasons why they decided to change the settings of the sub to hide who are the mods. --- About the engagement, it has always been low because users mostly post pics of their gear (because they want to show it off even though most of it is generic guitars), and the great bulk of users are beginners looking to get their questions answered (that's why we began the "No Stupid Questions" threads and tried to kick off the FAQ Project). But since we didn't suck Code's and nf's dix, all of it was brought to a halt, removed, and they banned us.

    I was a Registered User for the Twelve Tone System's Cakewalk Apprentice 1.0. That software came with the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro "MIDI Kit" (a MIDI cable adapter for the soundcart Joystick port). These allowed to connect an external synthesizer to the computer, and use the sequencing program on Windows 3.1 to record and play MID and native WRK files. I used a cheap Casio MT at the time. Promotional material was sent on the international mail, and included the QuarterTone quaterly magazine, a small newspaper. In this way, I was able to upgrade to the Cakewalk Audio. With a SB16 soundcard, you could play MIDI and audio at the same time, a feature not possible on the early SBPro. It may sound an idiocy today, but I was able to arrange great theatrical music and SFX for live plays at school using that nimble software and a tape recorder. What great memories!
